February 12, 2004OK, I got my cable internet hooked up today. I didn't have my puter at home online yet. Now, about every 10-15 minutes I get a message box saying that NT authority/system is shutting down the system because remote procedure service terminated unexpectedly. Has anybody ever heard of this and what does it mean????
February 12, 2004What OS do you have? Are you using a firewall or router? Need more info. Post your system specs.
February 12, 2004Uh oh, sounds like you have the W32.Baster.Worm. You need to update your antivirus software definitions, and try to remove the worm. If you don't have antivirus, there may still be ways of removing it, check out these links, this first one is the Microsoft Patch that's supposed to help prevent the worm from attacking your system:
And this page should help you to remove it:
Good luck with it!
February 13, 2004Yup, I agree, you've got the Blaster Worm. I had the same problem and ran a program called "Stinger." It found it twice and removed it. No problems since.
February 14, 2004Thanks for the help. guys....Like i said, I just got the internet connected, and within 15 minutes, I had the virus, already. I was planning on getting Norton this weekend, I had no idea I would/could get a virus that quickly. I'm not overly experienced at computers...My sister-in-law is coming over tomorrow to fix it for me. She is a compuetr-wiz, works at a computer help-line center....she says she'll have it up and going in no time. I also didn;t know that Windows XP had a firewall built-in. I found this out while trying to figure out what was wrong with the thing. It's now enabled, but it's a little to late...
February 15, 2004A good free virus service online is http://www.trendmicro.com
They have a free scanner for all you people who don't want to go out and pay for virus protection.
February 16, 2004My computer is up ans running good as new, now... On a compaq, you don't get a system restore CD when you buy it. There's a feature called System Restore and Compaq System Recovery that you use instead. We did this and then activated Norton and enabled the firewall. It's working great now....
February 26, 2004it sounds like the msblaster worm i had on my old computer it did no permanent damage to my pc but i had to get the removal tool and the patch from a friend since i could not stay on the computer long enough without it shutting down
February 27, 2004Don't get Norton or McAfee. They are very intrusive and will slow your system down....in addition to being a waste of money. Get AVG for free from Grisoft.
February 28, 2004Who is Grisoft, and how do I contact them?
