September 19, 2014Hi. I guess this is my first post?? I`ve been a member for 7 years but some reason I had to register again?? 93 Chevy 4.3 2 wheel drive. Here is my problem....my radiator will lose coolant after about a month or so to the point where my temp gauge will max out, but will very quickly go back down to normal?? This has happened to me 3 times. Every time this happens, I`ll check the radiator and it will be like half empty? I`m assuming I`m getting air in the system and that is why my truck overheats but then goes right back down? I have no leaks anywhere and there is no signs of coolant in my oil or vice versa? The only thing I can think of is it is burning coolant out the exhaust?? It does smoke a little more than normal?? Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

September 21, 2014Damn, that`s a nice truck Starman!
Did you check to see if it`s leaking at the back of the intake on the driverside? When I did my injectors, it was leaking back there. And btw I`m no mechanic
September 21, 2014Your year Chevy is known for failing intake manifold gaskets. The coolant is probably trickling into the motor. Best to get it fixed ASAP...if the gasket completely fails, you could be looking at a hydrolocked motor and major repair bills.
September 21, 2014How big of a job is that going to be?? How much will it cost if I have a shop do it? Sorry, I`m no mechanic either...lol.
September 21, 2014I just searched for "93 Chevy Intake Manifold Gasket Leaking" and found this video, seems pretty easy, just time consuming!
When I did mine it took 12+ hrs, but I have the Vortec motor
September 21, 2014This is a great video to help!
September 21, 2014If coolant was trickling into the motor like intheclouds1977 suggests....wouldn`t my oil look like coffee....or show some signs of coolant in the oil?? Someone else suggested I have an uncommon head gasket leak where coolant is leaking internally and somehow burning out the exhaust???????? Truck runs fine and has good power....just the coolant disappearing act...lol.
September 21, 2014Thanks for the youtube video....GuiltyByAssociation!!
September 21, 2014You`re welcome Starman. I saved those pages for me as well lol
October 16, 2014Well, I found out that it will cost me $800 to have the head and intake gaskets replaced. no one can figure out exactly where the hell my coolant is going......so I figured before I shell out $800, I went and bought some bars leaks head gasket and cooling sealant($40). I put it in today....I`ll keep everyone informed on how it`s working and if my coolant is still disappearing?

October 23, 2014Well, it`s been 1 week and my coolant is about an inch from the top!!! I think it`s working??? I`m not seeing any excessive white smoke coming from the tailpipe (not that I was seeing that much anyways....but enough that I could tell it wasn`t normal). I`ll report back in another week.
