December 25, 2011Im thinking about putting a bull bar on my 01 2500hd. I pull my fair share of buddies out of the mud and what not and sometimes I use the front tow hooks. Would I still be able to pull just as much as with the bull bar as I could with the tow hooks or will it not take as much. Thanks

December 25, 2011I`m not sure about it. I`ve seen bull bars pulled off before while getting a truck out of the mud. don`t know if they can`t handle the weight or if they were installed incorrectly. I would stick to the tow hooks though if it was my truck.
December 26, 2011I have also been considering the idea of getting a Westin bullbar on my 06 1500 crewcab 4x4 and I never use my tow hooks but a guy that I work with told me that Id probably be happier with a black brushguard and if I get the guard to get the full guard not just the middle piece. I dont know what I will end up getting but whatever I get Ill probably end up getting KC lights mounted as well. Im up for advice/suggestions on what might be the better choice.
December 27, 2011IMHO I would research really hard. Usually the tow hooks will have to be removed for the Bull bar to fit. The tow hooks would be stronger than the Bull Bar for pulling people out.
I like the looks of Bull Bars but they are more cosmetic and are mostly used to hold the KC lights
December 29, 2011I had a warn trans4mer up front with some modifications and 2 KC fog lights and 2 KC Daylighters..
Ive known quite a few people who had accidents with bars up front.. your airbags wont open, because the crush points dont crush. plus, they do so well in not bending, that your frame bends instead..
My all time fav chevy, was my mom`s dad`s chevy truck.. brings back good memories..
January 1, 2012Cars and Trucks have not used mechanical switches since the early 90`s. They use accelerometers that read rapid deceleration setting off the airbags. A bull bar would have nothing to do with that.
Off the subject, most modern vehicles keep track of the vehicle inputs (throttle position, brakes, steering, road speed, wheel speed, g forces, rpm, and much more) for a period of time and save them for later use after the airbags are diploid. In MN accident investigators have readers in their vehicle and have the right to take the "black box" after an accident, your insurance company also have a right to this info.
Consider that next time you have an itch for a "hey, watch this" moment.
January 1, 2012i have a full push bumper/cattle guard on my truck but was still adle to keed my tow hooks just had to just had to flip them so now theyh curl out instead of curl in so may be just go with a push bumper er see if ya cant rig up somethin so a cant keep yer tow hooks?
January 2, 2012i have a bull bar on my 96 and i was able to keep my tow hooks using the bolts that were there instead of the ones that come with the bar. i actually used them today with the bar on. i turned the hooks to the inside to fit them with the brackets. i dont know about your 01 though.
