November 10, 2011I bought a 1984 Chevy Scottsdale about a month ago. When I bought the truck it was sold as having a 350 for an engine. Upon checking the VIN a few days later I found out the truck came off the line with a 305. I then had the truck in the shop for repairs and the mechanic said that it wasn`t the original motor, but he wasn`t completely sure if it was a 305 or 350 that was in the truck right now. My problem is I have been looking for the engine ID number, but there are no numbers or even space for the numbers where I expected to find them, which was in front of the cylinder head on the passenger side. I`m not sure if I`m still not looking right or if this motor just doesn`t have a place for the number and if that`s the case is this normal? Thanks for any help.
