August 24, 2011I have a 1990 chevy with a 97 vortech block and `96 vortech heads it has a gm high performance intake with a throttlebody chip, headers, bored .30 over with a mild cam, and 202 valves does anybody know of any mods i can do to get some more juice out of her? I`m playing with the idea of turboing it but would like to see what power i can get out of it with out breaking the bank. any input is helpful.

August 24, 2011If memory serves me, a Whipple supercharger will get you more bang for your buck. but either turbo or supercharger won`t be cheap. But generally superchargers are cheaper (in my experience) and easier to install. turbo`s require a lot more than a supercharger, so if you supercharge, than full exhaust i am sure there will be a noticeable difference as long as your innards are built to withstand whatever PSI you are pushing.
If you want cheap, and you already have your built engine with performance TBI and intake, look at your exhaust. do a full exhaust system to get a little extra umph and a better sound. and if you can get away with it, take out your cats, if you can`t get away with it, put some high flows in there. power gains out of exhaust are negligible compared to a supercharger or turbo, but they are cheaper and easier.
Horsepower is how fast you were going when you hit the wall, Torque is how far you went after you hit the wall.
August 24, 2011it sounds like you are down to the grittys. could look into a stall that would match what you already done. that would take advantage of the cam. give better take off.other than that bigger cam. supercharger,????

August 24, 2011thanks for the replies, I have a full 3in. stainless exhaust with high flows and hand built mufflers, if you ask the local cops theyll tell you that my exhaust is plenty good, It is backed up by a five speed, and Istill have the throttle body. Tho i have injectors and a chip. My plan was to take a garrett turbo off of a 7.3L power stroke and doing a half back exhaust sytem with a intercooler? I find it much easier to adjust the psi with a system like that rather then switching pulleys and a supercharger.

October 28, 2011i have a 96 chevy 1500 with the 350 vortec and ive been looking everywhere for a performance intake manifold for this motor. i have yet to find one. anything i have found that fits the motor is set up for a carburetor. i cant find one that has a throttle body set up. where did you find yours?
