August 5, 2011so heres my story. im in the military got orders to alaska, so im gunna be making the drive up there from texas. im in the process on looking for a trailer and all that good stuff. i went to the truck store today and they said my frame was to rusted to mount a receiver to (4 years of driving in the north). He said it might crack it and cause extra damage. is there any way to beef up the frame so that could safely attach the receiver. im gunna be towing about 3k lbs plus the weight for of trailer. any idea??

August 6, 2011I wouldn`t take the chance. That would be a lot a stress for the transmission too.
I`d get a big u-haul and tow the truck up there safe and sound.
August 6, 2011Is the frame rusted at the rear only or is the whole frame that is rusted? If it`s the whole frame, it might not be safe enough to drive. If its only at the rear and the rest of the frame is good, then it could be reinforced.
August 6, 2011the whole frame has a coat of rust on it, but its still strong and has no cracks in it. i had the underbody sprayed when i first got it and its flaking off and taking a little rust with it. so it kinda looks worse that it is. im gunna get a few more opinions from some shops around here. i just wanna make sure its safe to tow a trailer with. ill try to get some pics up
