May 12, 2011i had a power aid tb spacer installed on my truck and just bought a volant cold air intake and the hardware that comes with the intake wont work so i had to take the tb spacer off. just wondering if anyone has run into this problem, and if so did you fix it and how? btw i have a 96 chevy 1500 5.7l tbi.
May 12, 2011I also just in the past few months installed a Volant Cold Air intake on my 95 5.7 liter, I have no spacer installed ( heard few pro`s for them and way more cons). Where was the problem with the Volant??
May 12, 2011throttle body spacer is just a paperweight, no real gain with it unless you have a tbi
May 12, 2011nothing wrong with it. just the hardware didnt allow me to keep the spacer on and i was just wondering if anyone had the same trouble on any other intakes-tb spacer combos. the intake was defiantly had a big improvement by itself but i would like to put my spacer back on to get more power.
May 12, 2011your truck is tbi so it would help but that us strange the hardware didnt work.
May 12, 2011the intake uses the stock tb hardware that doesnt work with the spacer so i took the spacer out and it works fine. but i want the spacer along with the intake
May 12, 2011like how did it not work? would it not bolt up right? could be cause with both of those together the stock hardware might not fit. and his trucks a 96 so its multipoint injected not throttle body injected
May 13, 2011Save yourself the time and return it, it will not gain you any mpg from it. Use the money you spent on it to buy more gas.
May 14, 2011As already said, a TB spacer does nothing on a dry intake like a `96. Don`t worry about it not installing, cause it`ll do nothing for your truck anyway.
TB spacers help with wet intakes (like with a carb or TBI) because they help the fuel atomize in the air. If there`s no fuel flowing through the spacer (like on your truck), all you`re doing is lengthening the intake. If anything, that would slightly decrease performance.
May 15, 2011i DO have a tbi setup and it DOES work. ive had it with the stock intake for a couple months and i liked it. thats why i want to keep it along with my new intake. as my original questions says i was just wondering if anyone has run into having a cold air intake and tb spacer that dont work together because of the different hardware as mine did. but for some reason the thread has changed into whether or not the spacer works. it DOES for my tbi setup. also its not multipoint injection because that ran from 87-95 mines a 96.
May 15, 2011Unless you purposely did a motor swap to a TBI, a 1996 Chevy truck comes with a Vortec motor, which is direct injection, not throttle body injection.
Yes, people frequently have problems with spacers combined with aftermarket intake kits. It`ll take a little ingenuity to make them work together.
