April 7, 2011my buddy has a 96 chevy 1500 that we took mudding last weekend and we washed all the mud out and his truck has been fine all week until tonight he lost his brake lights we checked all the wires and fuses and nothing was wrong any one have ideas?
April 8, 2011Check the brake switch which is mounted at the brake pedal. Also make sure you have a good ground to the lights. If the taillights work then you have a good ground.
April 9, 2011If all taillights cut out, I`d vote for the brake switch too. If there are no lights working at all and you`ve already checked fuses and wiring, could be the socket board itself. Typically run in the $15-20 range at most auto part stores.
April 10, 2011thanks guys he still doesnt know what it is after i posted this i talked to him and he told me that he go in the truck to move it around in his yard again and they worked and have worked all weekend so he thinks it might have been an electrical gremlin
April 11, 2011If it happens again i would second the idea of it being the brake light switch
