March 8, 2011Ya the 383 would be an awesome choice!
March 8, 2011.... looking into a stroker kit but their pricey... and i can`t do that at home, not enough knowledge, so include the cost of an engine shop... this is gonna be expensive either way.... i like the 383 though...
March 8, 2011You could just order a crate motor from GM. They are pricey but come with a warrante. That is what i was gonna do with 82 but then I went a little nuts with it.
March 8, 2011Jasper is a little cheaper and they offer hp packages and torque packages also. you can pretty much build the motor you want and can afford for less than a GM crate. However the 383 GM crate is more money but money well spent.
March 8, 2011I had my engine replaced on an 88 chevy 2500. Went a place called powertrain products. I got a rebuilt engine for $1500.00. No shipping costs and no core deposit as long as the core was returned with a month. The best part is they offer a million mile warranty for 4 years and they pay the shop fees at $70.00 /hr on warranty work.
March 14, 2011...i can get a gm replacement for my truck for $2400, 220 hp... i can get a 350ho for $4200, 355hp and 400lbs torque... those are the two most economical for me right now... i heard that the 383 has to high a powerband, would have to keep it revving 1500rpm at ared light or it will stall.... i can get a 383 for a truck application, but it ain`t cheap....
March 15, 2011The high powerband is the range at which you reach maximum horsepower. example if it says 300hp at 5500rpm just means you wont be at 300 hp until your powerband is at 5500 rpm. No need to high idle or revving it at a light. You could also pull your motor and rebuild it or have someone rebuild it. Its most likely a four bolt main and you can punch it 30 over and a nice mild cam would give you some more power, reliability, and save you some cash also. good luck.
March 16, 2011.... decided on the GM replacement engine, 220hp efi, 4 year 60000km warranty... i have a set of dynaflow headers with thrush mufflers.... i`ll push maybe close to 250hp.... i think this is the safest way to go.... i have 3 other 350`s, so i think i`ll take my time and rebuild one myself...
March 16, 2011That should be enough power to get your moving!
March 17, 2011......i hope so dude...i`ll be dissapointed if she`s underpowered... but its too late now...the new engine is sitting in my garage now...no going back...
