February 24, 2011Well, yesterday i was driving back from a sight, doing 30ish in a 50. I had the trailer behind me, and didnt know the area to well. so when a brake in the snow storm showed a red light coming up, i tried to brake, next i saw a truck stopped at the stop light. so i go to the side to avoid him. in quick thinking i tried to turn onto the connecting road and make the turn, in retrospect i should have just tried to get back onto the road on go through the intersection. but i`m not sure if that would have worked either. anyhow, while making the turn, my truck managed to nail a jeep with my dually right in the side of the jeep. the jeep wasn`t damaged much, and apparently was a rental. My truck pretty much slammed into it and slammed the jeep into the ditch. than continued to jackknife through a ditch which i think caused most of the damage to my truck. but anyhow, here are the pics. it was below zero (take that Texas people) so i only took a few pictures and than decided to get into a warm vehicle so i dont freeze, wind chill apparently was at -25 where i was....but here are the pics
February 24, 2011wow that sucks, sorry bout your truck.
February 24, 2011damn man that`s bad sorry man hope it all works out for ya
February 24, 2011Sorry brother
February 24, 2011Yikes Glad your alright
February 24, 2011heavy trailers and snow never mix well glad that everyones ok trucks can be repaired or replaced.
February 24, 2011yeah, the important thing is that everyone can be replaced. erm, is OK. lol. i am curious what insurance will say, fix or total out. it is definitely fixable, so i wouldnt be surprised if they fix it. on the same page, the trucks 12 years old. and stuff that is not visible could be damaged. so insurance could just cut a check and ask for the title. if they do that, i would expect about 10k back. which is what most 99 half and 3/4 tons are going for, this being an OBS they might ding me for, but its still a one ton, dually crew cab short box. not easy to find. so i would still expect withing a grand or two of $10,000. which puts me in the price range of 3/4 ton duramax`s....which i would love to have. and a lot of the ones under $14,000 are still in nice shape, just around 150k miles which doesn`t bother me a bit on a duramax. i`ll still have over 50k miles before little things start need fixing, and a while before anything major breaks. i`m hoping to find out tomorrow, but probably wont know until next week. hopefully i will know soon so that i can figure out if i need to start looking at new trucks and return my brand new tires while i can, or begin the waiting game for my truck to get back to me.
February 24, 2011Loki, I`m so sorry - glad you didn`t get hurt!
From the pics it looks like your frame might be bent, judging from the gap between the cab and bed
February 25, 2011Sorry about the accident but glad everyone ok. Our weather is about the same as yours and it was not nice out there driving.
February 25, 2011yeah, i`ll be going out to the body shop its at this weekend. a nice 2 hour drive from my house, to get the rest of my stuff out of the truck. i just grabbed anything worth over $100 due to teh fact that it was a blizzard and i didnt feel like going through it.
and GBA, yeah i didnt notice that till you mentioned it. i`ll be taking a closer look this weekend at everything and take some better pictures. If the frame is tweaked it`s totaled for sure. which wont make me to happy, but i`ll get the duramax i wasnt planning on getting until a year or two down the road. the thing thats really itching at my back is the fact that i have $1000 worth of new, nice tires sitting in my garage that i just fricken bought for my truck. lol. but i have 30 days from this past sunday to return them for a full return. i just need to know if they will total the truck or not. there is a great deal on a `02 duramax with 174k on it. only $12,500. there is also an `04, with 158k for 14,550. but what makes me wonder is they claim a 6 speed manual. i thought all GM trucks quit offering a manual tranny in 02, and even than it was only available on SWB half tons. does anyone know for sure if the duramax ever came with a manual 6 speed? if it really is a manual, i`ll find a way to get that truck. but on the flip side of the coin i`m kinda hoping they will fix it. i had plans for that truck, and i`ll be sad to not be able to do them....
February 26, 2011yeah tell me about it, now i only wish it was actually equiped with quadasteer.
i`ll know more next week, but i spoke to the insurance agents over the phone, both mine and the company`s. they both said that they would probably just total the truck out from the sounds of the damage, so i wont be surprised if they do. mostly because the second i stepped out and looked at my rear tires i thought to myself "its totalled..." even though if there is no frame damage i could probably fix everything for a few grand or less. but if they total it i`ll pick up a duramax.
