December 30, 2010I havent posted on here in quite some time, but I just had to share this because I thought it was so cool.
I went to change my brakes the other day, so I got the security key for my lock nuts out of the glove box. I immediately broke the key trying to get the nut off. Next I tried to weld a big nut to the lug nut so I could take it off like a regular nut. The heat from the weld must have weakened the lug because it broke off leaving me in a worse position than before. I ordered a new key and had the broken nut and stud drilled out. New key came in the mail and I got two more wheels off before I broke the key on the same wheel again. Beyond frustrated, I grabbed a 21mm 12pt socket that wouldnt quite fit on over the round body of the lock nut. I touched the leading edge of the points with a dremel to make a nice lead in, and then I beat the snot out of the socket until it went over the nut and was firmly stuck. One quick jerk with the breaker bar, and she popped right off. It looks like an over tightened lug nut and road salt were to blame. Keep this one in your back pocket for future use.
