December 12, 2010Just bought my neighbors 2001 GMC Sierra with only 51K on it. This truck is mint, about 90% of show room condition. Have done a fair amount of reserch on oil filters and ended up more confused than anything. My other truck I bought new back in 1989 and it has 300,000+ miles on it now. Used Castrol GTX and AC-Delco filters for vasy majority of those miles.
I need some BS free info on what is a good oil filter that will not allow oil to drain back and cause my trucks engine to suffer low oil start ups.
Is there actully anything out there that will serve me any better than my old stand by of a AC-Delco PF-59? The truck has the small 4.8 liter V8 in it.I plan on holding on to this truck extream long term (200,000+ miles) if it serves me well.
Lastly as a side not, all my neighbor ever ran in it was valvoline 5W-30, does anyone know what the onsensis of valvoline oils is in general for use in Chevy/GMC trucks? should I stay with Valvoline 5W-30 or is there a better NON/SYN oil choice out there.
I feel, based on the fact I change my oil with out fail at BTWN 3000&3500 miles, that your choice of oil filter is actualy more important than the oil itself as long as I stay with a high quality oil like Valvaline, Shell or Castrol.
Thanks to all for you fact based info, on this my first post at this superb website.
