October 3, 2010I have a 2006 2500HD xtra cab short bed. I am looking to get a change in my stock exhaust. The stock only has 22k on it and is perfect. Can I get away with just putting a new muffler in it and a chrome tip? If so who to go with and what size and part?

October 3, 2010Is it gas or diesel? If it is gas, I would go with the 50 series big block flowmaster, they make them dual in and out 2 3/4 inch pipe I believe. The pipe size on the diesel is 3 1/2 I believe, not sure what muffler would sound best on it though.
October 4, 2010I have the 50 series hd on my 2500 6.0 and it sounds awesome.
October 4, 2010check out my exhuast i did my self, replaced muffler with 3 inch pipe, 4.5 tip
October 4, 2010It is a 6.0 gas to Stuntman.
To jdking07 what measurements do I need in and out of the muffler?
October 5, 2010Your truck comes stock with 3 in piping so you can do 3in in and out and then just decide how you want to run it duals keep it single. i`m pretty sure you have duals into the muffler so you can buy two mufflers single in single out and run true duals. all depends on what you want to do but the pipe size inlet is 3 in.
October 10, 2010I have a 2500HD an put a full Gibson stainless side swept on mine came with huge pipe and it sounds amazing! Costs a few bucks but was worth every cent!
October 10, 2010i personaly am abig fan of magnaflow nice deep tone, not to loud while crising but when u get on it, its nice
October 13, 2010I have the Magnaflow on my 2010 2500HD. I put it on the day after I bought the truck. I cut the pipes pretty far foward to striaghten them out a little and re ran with new 3" (stock). It is 2 in 2 out dumped right out of the muffler. Sounds great not bad crusing but got a nice tone when you stand on it. The only thing I dont like is that the 6.0s always sound like they have an exhaust leak but I deal with it
October 14, 2010so I found out my best and cheapest option will be a Flowmaster 50 series. Now I just have to get a chrome tip and father in law to weld it on.
February 8, 2011Go magnaflows. Ive got a single in dual out on my `03 Dodge Ram. with the 4.7
Sounds real deep and loud (glasspack is broke in now). Unless you want to be able to have a conversation in the backseat. Me, I dont mind in cab noise.
October 4, 2011Yes you can get away with it, the only thing restrictive on a factory exhaust is the muffler. Just add a perofmance muffler and tip and you will yield the same results as a $700-1200 exhaust system. For sound nothing beats a flowmaster but they are also as restrictive as the stock mufflers because they have baffles inside that actually slow down the airflow. You want to find a muffler with a straight through design like magnaflow, dynomax ext. I paid $147 for a magnaflow muffler install and purchased a chrome tip from autozone for $19 bucks. You be the judge? just do your research on your muffler of choice, good luck.
