November 5, 2009i am about 1000 miles over due for an oil change and my Chec engine oil message still hasn`t appeared yet. the battery has died a few times and i was wondering if the oil life system is reset after the battery dies.

November 6, 2009No, it doesn`t reset. The oil life meeter will tell you to change the oils about 6-7,000 miles. It just doesn`t trip based on mileage. There`s a big formula that goes into it.
If the trucks new, I`d do the first oil change about 1000 miles, then from there let the GM oil life meter tell you when. It works pretty good.
November 6, 2009If your battery went dead all the data in the PCM is lost and has to relearn it self, and of course the OLM starts all over again.
November 6, 2009I`ve disconnected the battery before and never lost the OLM or anything else for that matter other than PCM reset.
Those are stored in the BCM as I recall.
November 6, 2009On the GMT800 trucks i know for a fact that unhooking the battery or removing the PCM will reset the PCM and the OLM.
March 5, 2010on most, if not all, of those oil life meters the life is calculated by a huge formula. some have an option in the menus to change the intervals at which the message appears, but I have yet to see a GM with it. GMs usually calculate, temp, driving style, distance, MPH, load, and all sorts of things to get you optimal oil life. I change every 3K along with a tire rotaion every oil change, but the new systems will give you the most oil life for your money. never hurts to change the oil early though. remember to reset the light, turn your truck to on (not start) just on. then full press and release the gas pedal three times within 5 seconds. most of the time, the change engine oil message will flash. or youll see a message saying "oil life reset"
March 14, 2010Does my 03 chevy burb Lt display oil life in percentages in addition to change oil indicator? If not What year did all of these and or other dashboard info center updates come about. Thanks guys!!!!!
March 14, 2010If you have the DIC info center it will show the % used. My 2003 LT pickup does.
March 14, 2010look on your steering wheel or dash. if your truck does display percentage, you will see four buttons. one has a road, one has a fuel pump, one has an i, and the last i think says reset or menu. im not sure. but push the i until you see oil life. either that or the road button. I can do it without thinking in the truck, but i can never explain it right. haha. if you dont have those buttons, try pushing your trip/odometer button. see if the % appears there. if not,t hen you just have a change oil indicator
