April 20, 2009I have a 1997 silverado 1500 and was told i was unable to take off the cats because there is a o2 sensor not only before but behind them which i know there is. I was told it would mess with me fuel air ratio and give me horrible milage and keep my engine light on all the time and my only option was high flo cats. I am able to take them off *or* how much of this is true?

April 21, 2009Hell I might be interested XD B/c im getting about 9mpg atm with my lift/tire/gear setup.
April 21, 2009Yea I have had all kinds of trouble with my cats. About a year ago i started losing alot of power so I took it to my dealership to get it checked out and they couldnt find out what was wrong with it so I had my transmission rebuilt(i needed it rebuilt anyway) but that didnt fix anything and i got it done for a good price. I regeared my truck to 4.88 gears about the same time too and that helped but engine lights were still coming on left and right. So i took it to a local shop and they said my cats were bad so i got them replaced and it ran perfect for a while untill my 11yo 350 finaly gave out. I was pissed about that too b/c no one ever said there was anything wrong with my engine. Just out of the blue on the interstate i started losing oil presser and my engine temp shot way up. I guess it was its time anyway it had 125k miles on it anyway but what was extremely weird was when i got my 383 stroker put in they said the cats(brand new ones supposedly) were shot. Didnt make any since to me at all. So maybe some hi flow cats would keep me out of trouble b/c ima hurt someone if this engine goes bad b/c someone put cheap *or* used cats in my truck~!!!!!
April 21, 2009ya well bad cats can clog up and may be the reason that your last engine died it may not have been but if the cats were clogged bad enough they could have done damage..if you want i have two magnaflow high flow cats with 2" inlet and outlet 70.00 a piece plus shipping let me know
April 21, 2009Yea I think your right about that. I just bought a new 442 style ram air hood and I think im going to repaint my truck since I have to paint the hood anyway. If I have some money left over after that Ill hit about them. If I wanna keep this truck i need my engines to last and i cant have my cats clogging up like they were. Thanks man ill keep u posted.
