March 31, 2009I use Royal Purple 10W30 with a Mobil one oil filter on my silverado. Is that a good combination? Those Mobil one filters arent cheap, at work we use the Penzoil filters too and trust me they are not that good LOL

April 1, 2009I say WIX all the way. I spent about 3 hrs reading test results and alot of other peoples opinion. I use mobile 1 and WIX. If you read up on it thers not a hole lot of difference between Mobile Royal Purple and Amsoil. Just my opinion.
April 22, 2009If you hear different comments about fram filters just go with the original ac delco filters to meet factory performance and not go wrong..
April 22, 2009ya Ac delco especially since they are sold at walmart now and cost the same as fram anyway
July 3, 2010they are running a special at Advanced Auto, 5quarts of mobil 1 and a mobil 1 filter for $30. So im switching this time to that instead of the Castrol Syntec and Napa Gold combo. We shall see how the mobil 1 filter is. Hopefully no issues
July 3, 2010Personally I`m a fan of the Wix filter/Mobil 1 setup. I change oil every 4000-6000 miles depending how hard I`ve been driving, and even in the summer after 6k miles my oil still has a light brown color with no particulate.
1994 Silverado K1500, 5.7L, 4L60E, G80 (ugh), 3.42, 303,000+ miles and counting
July 3, 2010I have always run fram, my dad has always ran fram and never had any major problems with them. Other than sometimes the filter seal will sometimes stay on the motor. Havent heard a bad thing till I read this.
July 3, 2010I`ve used Fram filters for the past 30 years, never had a problem. Never replaced an engine either, typically the body is gone long before the engine. Last truck ahd 286,000 miles on her and the engine was as strong as the day I got her.
By the way, you can test for anything, and make your results favor one thing over another by how you do the testing. I`ve been in quality for over 20 years, Also do 6 Sigma, and ISO for major manufactures. Wix and the others are selling you the marketing hype. Its a filter, nothing more.
July 9, 2010My father ran an automotive shop for over 40 years. He had his own preferences of course, but always said the most important thing was to actually change the oil and filter regularly. Period. You can sway test results one way or another to favor what you want the result to be - but the most important fact remains - to change them regularly.
Now, as for me on my 02 HD. I purchase Mobile 1 Synthetic 5w-30 at Walmart - Find it alot at $21 for 5 quarts - I stock up when i find it at that price (use it on wifes car too). I also purchase AC Delco filters there too - about $4 ea.
For me its about being comfortable with what I am putting into my vehicle. I really don`t care where I buy it as long as I feel good and save a few bucks along the way. I`ve used Valvoline, Havoline - I`ll buy Wix filters when i can`t find AC. I use Bosch plugs and wires - but have used AC many times as well.
Oh and about FRAM - 30 years ago, it was all I would buy - but times change and my trust is no longer there.
Some one here mentioned earlier - find your comfort and stick with it as much as possible.
The one thing I will take a firm stand on is this:
If the magic way to fix your engine exist in a can on a shelf - then why are there so many mechanics in buissiness. In other words - take "real" care of your engine - don`t get dragged into the belief that the $3.99 can on the shelf will do it for you.
