January 19, 2008This is a 1999 chevy tahoe 2door 5.7L with 120K miles. Just today my fuel gauge has started vibrating back and forth really fast. It will then jump around every once in a while. It will be vibrating at 1/4 tank then jump up to 1/2 a tank. When I go to start it, it pegs the needle way past the full tank mark and then settles back to where it is supposed to be. It does not vibrate right away. It starts when I take off to drive it after a fresh start, giving it some gas. Anybody know what the problem is? Fuel pump?

January 19, 2008the pump is OK, the sender is worn out
the truck will run OK with that problem, you just won't know how much gas you have.
You'll have to drop the tank to put another one in, be a good time to get the whole assembly, pump/sender and the boot that goes on the pump
January 19, 2008It is probably just the sending unit in the tank.
Edit: Damn he beat me to it. Rick explained it better anyway.
January 19, 2008Thanks guys. Yea I ruled out the pump really fast since it still runs like a champ. It seems to be only jumping around right after I put it into the higher rpm's. Still vibrates every time though. Anybody have any instructions, best prices, tips, or anything useful on replacing it?
