May 4, 2006I have dual flowmaster Orig. 40's; 2.5" pipe out the rear; No Cats; 3.5"x12"?? slash tips. The thing is, the tone starts to crackle a little at 2500 RPM's and up. It sounds fine up until then. Anyone have any idea as to what I can do to eliminate that? I hate having my exhaust crackle. Will bigger diameter tips help? Longer tips? Change muffler? I'd rather not change the mufflers, because they are only about 1 yr old. I have thought about cutting the pipes off right at the mufflers, and having an 'X' pipe welded in and maybe re-routing the tailpipes behind the tires at a 45 degree angle instead of straight back. Please post suggestions.
May 4, 2006Bigger diameter pipe will help and so will the X-pipe. Tips are making it deeper not really making it crackle more.
May 4, 2006wont bigger pipes make it crackle to?
May 4, 2006an X-pipe
May 5, 2006cool thanks. I had been planning on getting an X, so at least I won't be having to buy a whole new system. I saw on a website that Hedman makes a pre-fabbed X pipe that you can just clamp or weld in. It was about $90. Is that the best way to go, rather have someone build one? Also, where is the cheapest place to buy S.S. tips around 4"-4.5" diameter rolled edge?
May 8, 2006I have been wondering about this. My exhaust setup now is (2) Flowmaster 40's inline of real duals. Would my tone get deeper or better sounding with just (1) muffler instead of two? Say if I did (1) with DI/DO 2.5" pipe w/ 4.5" tips, and an X pipe. How would that sound? Better like that or with (2) mufflers?
May 10, 2006I think you'll be happy with the 2 mufflers once you get the X pipe on there.
May 15, 2006i have a SI/DO flowmaster 30 series on my truck and im VERY pleased with the sound. 4 inch tips are rather hard to find, but mine are 4" X 24" and give a REALLY deep tone, along with great looks. they are made by Ractive. ive never seen a 4.5 inch tip myself, but i would imagine it would be huge. it may be hard to find a SS rolled edge tip over 4 inches. I have seen 5 inch regular cut straight back tips on a lowered chevy and they we MASSIVE. the only problem i see is findin the right size outlet, AND inlet....most 5 inch tips have 4 inch inlet, or 3.5. but im sure a good mechanic can take care of that for ya...
