May 3, 2006I have a slight leak in my intake manifold gasket. I am pretty mechanically inclined, so I was just wondering about how long I can expect this to take me? Is there anything in particular that I should pay special attention to or is there any good tips I should know about to save me a ton of time? Thanks in advance!!

May 3, 2006It took me about a weekend to do my first one. Think about a night to get it all apart. Then a morning to clean up, and a night to put together. I also replaced my fuel pressure regulator and snapped one of the bolts for the upper manifold so i had to go get a new one.
Things to watch for ... hmm ... just make sure the surfaces are clean and you bring the sealant beads a little way up the gaskets. Id suggesting taking pics along the way so you remember what wires ran where and whatnot.
Oh, and go easy with the heater hose connector towards the front of the motor on the pass side. I broke the plastic clip inside when i took it out somehow and had to buy a whole new fitting.
May 4, 2006I bought and installed a new heater hose connector a while back, so that one should be good. My brother has a truck just like mine, so if I get stuck on something, I can take a peek at his. Any other tips? Not sure if I'll do it this weekend, but may definately do it next weekend.
May 4, 2006Yes before you start take it to a drive in wash place and use high presure to wash off any dirt or sand. Get right around the inside end of the valve cover and intake manifold. This one step will save alot off stuff from falling into the motor when you pull the manifold. good luck and have fun.
