February 6, 2006Hey just curious about how you guys mount your center console's to the floor of your cab? I was thinking they go rite along the transmission tunnel and it seem's like it would be hard to through bolt them rite there.
February 6, 2006well the 95-98 center consoles have a system that has a solid bracket in the back mounted to the tranny tunnel, and has a mount on the console that slides into it from the front. At the front it has a bracket only on the console that secures to the tunnel with 2 bolts. The bolts are threaded into simple holes in the body that have been tapped. (there might be a PEM or welded nut on the back for more strength).
So if you can imagine this for a better picture, to take mine out i just unbolted the front 2 bolts and slid the center console foward to free it from the other bracket.
If you are making your own I dont see a problem with just drilling a few holes in the floor and running a tap through them. You may also drill a few holes, then tack weld nuts to the surface for the bolts.
If you have no idea what i just said I can go outside and get a couple pics for you, i still have it out and can show the brackets.
February 6, 2006please show the pics. i am thinking about putting 1 in my '98. it didnt come with 1.
February 6, 2006Check out NCFirefighter's gallery when he gets on. He's got some pics in there. I'd upload them, but he's not online right now. (8:36pm)
February 7, 2006my custom console just sits...the seat keeps it in place and it's form molded to the dash...
February 7, 2006well you got a pick up so im not sure if its the same. but i had a suburban that i switched from the bench seat to buckets and im pretty sure there are spots marked in the metal where your supposed to drill the holes, there was a bracket too that you need to use for the back of the center coucel if you use one out of a k5 blazer. but i just left it out. the center coucel will just lean back a little bit but whatever
