Has anyone hear much about adding acetone in small quatities (3oz per 10 gal) in you fuel? I read some info that it increases gas mileage and isn't bad (in this quatity) for the seals and such. From what I have read it helps the fuel to atomize and thus burns better. It also seems to not work as well in the presence of ethanol. I am probably too chicken to try it in my 03 suburban, but it is interesting.Forums : Engines-Gasoline : Acetone? (97 Views)

I read the article on adding acetone. In some cases it increased mileage, other times not so all you can do is try and see what happens.I would be reluctant to add rubbing alcohol because it is cut with a certain amount of water.

Rubbing alcohol actually helps evaporate the water from your gas tank. My dad is 73 and has been putting several pints of it in his gas tank every month, as long as he has owned a vehicle.December 15, 2005

3oz to 10 gals of gas wouldn't affect anything

Is he putting rubbing alcohol in there or pharmacy grade ethanol? They are both packaged in a similar bottle. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is about 30% water. Pharmacy grade ethanol is usually around 5% water.Scoob
