May 13, 2004Hi,
New to this forum, my first post actually.
I have been looking into new wheels with a possible supension lift in the future on my 2002 Silverado Z71.
The local shop tells me that I am limited in wheel/rim selection if I plan to have a supension lift installed. I have been told that I could only run wheels with 4.5-4.6 inch back spacing or less. This would limit me to alot of wheels I had in mind. Most of the wheels I was looking at had 4.75-5 inch or more back spacing (I guess they have simuliar offset to stock rims). I asked what if I kept the tire size I run now (285-75-16) on the stock suspension. He further clearified it by saying it makes no difference if I ran 35" or 33" tyires, I still need the extra offset if I want to go with a lift. Something about Rim clearance with the calipers?
Can anyone help me out with this? Is it true?
