October 7, 2011I heard that Cummins is coming out with a new 4 cylinder diesel to go in the Nissan Titan it is suppose to create 600 jobs in the U.S and I am really excited, I may even consider buying one once they have been out a while and have used ones available. What do you guys think about this...I heard it speced for 21/28 MPG which is decent for a full size truck. I think its a great idea and that the Big 3 should follow suite with 4 cylinder diesels since we usually dont need much more power than that in a 3/4 ton truck....I will say that I posted this in a general automotive forum and some people out there have no clue about diesel engines...they told me that 4 cylinder diesel wont have enough power to move a full size truck and that the cylinders will be the size of coffee cans I believe LMAO they think it will have the same power as a cobalt engine...

October 7, 2011I thought cummins already made a 4 cylinder diesel. The 3.9L. Its common swap into trucks besides its larger cousin the 5.9. Cant wait till mine is complete.....
October 7, 2011They do but they are making one just for Nissan, not sure on specifics of how many liters or CI yet, to put in the titan and it will be an option instead of a swap.
October 8, 2011I think this is good, think of it this way-
If the 5.9L or the newer 6.7L Cummins can put out near 800-1000 torque with a little work to it, the new 4 banger should, or is at least capable of a minimum of 400 torque in theory. Which aint too shabby.
October 8, 2011Diesel`s are in everyones future so love it leave it. I for one love them, and would love to have a built 4bt in my little half ton.
October 9, 2011I really hope Diesels are the future and 4 cylinder ones go in trucks, this is a very efficient setup for a 1/2ton or 3/4 ton truck
October 14, 2011Before GM filed bankruptcy they had a plan to put a small 8 or 6 cylinder durmax into half ton trucks. Putting out around 450hp and 475lbft I believe. (Not 100% on the specs so dont quote me) With the tough economic times that the " Big 3" are facing they have been forced to drop some very promising programs like small ci diesels for lighter trucks. I am on the fence... look at the diesel in the Jeep Liberty, they sure didnt set the world on fire with their sales numbers. Some people dont want the headache of higher prices for fuel, higher prices for maintenance, and higher overall initial cost. From what I read itll cost just as much to get into a half ton diesel as a 2500 or 3500 plus you will get less power.
October 15, 2011GM Should reconsider that 4.5 liter Duramax, they could put it in 1/2 ton trucks and they would get 25mpg!
October 15, 2011I believe most of the new trucks get 20mpg already with the new electronic fuel management anyway. It sounds like a good idea but i don`t think sales would be high enough for them to keep the truck production. Its just easier to get a 2500HD with a dmax and call it a day.
