September 13, 2011Hey gang, been a while since I have been on but I need some help please. I bought new infinity speakers for my `04 silverado stock system, and the existing system has separate tweeters in the front doors. My new speakers are 2 ways with built in tweeters. How should I deal with this? Is it even an issue? I imagine I would just disconnect the "old" tweeters and let them remain in place to keep the "hole" filled. Does anyone know if there is a crossover in there that will goof up my plan. Any help would be appreciated!

September 13, 2011do your new speakers have a separate connection for the tweets? if no i`d live your stock tweets hooked up, if yes than ran the new wires and its up to you on leaving the hole filled or not. you could run lights or switches there, and the grill that covers the speakers would cover the hole if you remove the tweets them self. I know on the cheaper speakers with built in tweets the tweeters run on the same cables as the main speakers, i don`t know about your infinity`s though. If it were me and the new speakers only have one set of connectors, i would definitely leave the stock tweets in and wired up.
Horsepower is how fast you were going when you hit the wall, Torque is how far you went after you hit the wall.
September 13, 2011I ordered from crutchfield so I went ahead and called them. Man was it fast and easy - right through. They told me I was right - just disconnect the existing tweeters and leave them. The door speaker does get a full signal, so the tweeters in the new 2 way speakers will work, and I will just have extra highs if I leave the old ones hooked up. They said their is no crossover before the speaker - just a resistor or something in front of the old tweeter so it only received the highs. I figured I would post this to help others who may bee looking for this info. I may try to tackle these tonight!
September 14, 2011I installed my front speakers last night. It went well, easier than I thought. I wish Crutchfield had told me I needed to supply the mounting screws though. I ended up using some self tappers I had but it slowed me down as I had already drilled some holes for the nonexistent screws. Anyway the sound is so much better - and the condition of the factory speakers was terrible - surrounds rotted off etc. I can`t wait to do the rears.
September 15, 2011Rear speakers are in - what a difference in sound. Truly amazing, even with the stock radio. A tip - when removing the rear panels the metal clip that is just below the door operator handle will pop off and disappear. It happened to me on BOTH doors. I have not found either of them and yes I looked in the door and tried a magnet. All the others stayed on. I have not missed them yet - the panel seems secure.
September 15, 2011Good to hear the updates on the Chev. And I understand the clip issues, I cant tell ya how many times I`ve lost them and then found randomly days later!
Are you or have you replaced the stock radio head unit yet?
As for me,I was lucky enough to have the Bose system in mine and man is that a great system, have you ever had the Bose to compare the infitity to?
