February 9, 2011ok so i got an 06 chevy 4x4 2500 duramax deisle and when i start it (doesnt matter when cold or hot)sometimes their is a loud clunk from under the truck i mean you can feel it in the floor board ive never heard any of my buddies trucks (all chevys) do it however they all got straight pipes and couldnt hear it over that anyway so im stumped sometimes if i turn the truck on without starting it and wait a minuite or so it doesnt do it i got a warranty and it still falls under the 5 year 100k from chevy but i want an idea as to what it might be before i go to the stealership or the shop

February 9, 2011Check your universals first and if that isn`t it check your transfer case.
February 9, 2011Is it in the motor when you start it up or when you start driving?
February 9, 2011no it is only when i FIRST start it still in park
February 9, 2011masterdelux....... what am i looking for play in the universals i get but the transfer case?? i forgot to post that this only happens when i first start it in the morning with the truck in park
February 9, 2011Check if your mounts, motor/ trans are in good shape. You could be getting some play there causing some noise. You could start there. Also when its really could out like this i know the diesel`s carry on a little bit before oil gets to places it needs to be. My buddies cummins does it a little, and the 02 Dmax i drove did it a little bit at start up too. I dont want to start with my 6.5 and carrying on..... haha
February 9, 2011thats what i was affraid of as i was thinking it might be a oil/fluid pressure issue the way it clunks so loudly i will check the mounts but should it go in to the shop to check the inards or it is what it is??
February 9, 2011Does it have good oil pressure after it starts up? Does it only happen when its cold? I am not sure what temp Calia is right now but is 18 out in PA and cold for a diesel. I would def have it looked into, the dmax motors are expensive to buy.
February 9, 2011yeah oil pressure seems fine i think the shop will get this one
February 9, 2011Motor mounts possibly sounds right but diesels do run slightly different sounding until warming up i have noticed
February 9, 2011if it were motor mounts wouldnt it do it every time?? but it doesnt thats whats so frustrating
February 19, 2011If it`s coming from the motor and it`s usually after it`s been sitting for awhile it could be your lifters. I had the same problem but I couldn`t feel it in the floorboards. It just made a loud clunk for a split second right at start up. It was the hydraulic lifters loosing their prime and the oil leaked out after sitting for awhile (usually 3-4 days or more). I put in some Lucas synthetic oil treatment and it hasn`t done it since.
