June 6, 2010My son bought a `97 Dodge Ram 1500 2wdr with the 5.9L V8 and what I thought was a brake issue appears to be a locker issue.
It seems like the locker is engaged. Rear axle off the ground on jack stands, tranny in neutral, both rear tires rotate in the same direction at the same time. Shouldnt they rotate in opposite directions like an open diff? We also hear a grinding like noise that is affected by speed. Even with the tranny in neutral and moving. There is a point when you take your foot off the gas where the noise stops, however once the truck starts to decelerate it starts grinding again.
Looking for some help, ideas?
