March 5, 2006does anybody know how get that wonderful crackiling sound in a glass pack??? i know it takes time for the muffler to burn out a bit an i heard you can run a water hose into the pipes an get the glass pack full then fire it up an punch it an heating it up some with a tortch. but im still young an un patient an its to cold for the water right now. an i realllly want it to crakle. kinda sooths the heart ya know? lol
March 5, 20062 1/2 or 2 1/4 inch pipes give more crackle and pop sound if that is what you mean.
March 5, 2006Rice Krispies will give you that crackle and pop sound too.
March 5, 2006thats what i was thinking after i typed that. those sound good im going to the store!!
March 6, 2006I have 12 inch glasspacks and they crackle and pop alot to me. I have heard of people getting them really hot then shooting water up their tailpipes and shattering the stuff inside.
March 6, 2006Get them hot then stick the water hose in there an it will brake the stuff inside, or take a torch an heat it an hit it with a rubber mallet a bunch
March 6, 2006It depends on your engine too, what year/engine do you have?
87-95 tbi's don't usually pop and crackle. 96-present do crackle a lot. No matter what mufflers you have on them.
March 6, 2006it's the fiberglas cracking as it cools
March 6, 2006my 88 350 tbi, headers with glasspacks on each collector...they crackled alot...
March 6, 2006i got a 94 chevy pick up with the 305 an i done beat the hell out the glass pack one day with a giant rock lol an it sounds the same, but it has gotten louder sence i put it on there though so thats always good too
March 6, 2006As long as you have a single glasspack, your not gonna get that crackle. I have a 95 with a 305 with shorty headers, stock cat, no muffler, and 4"x12" tips angled out the side. It sounds pretty dang good to me, but true duals always sound better. If I was you I would cut the muffler off and get some pipe welded in its place, or just buy two high flow cats and true dual it with glasspacks. My 2 cents!
