May 31, 2011so the other day i noticed my truck started a little slower than normal but i was a little low on gas. so i went to get some. but i noticed later it was still slow starting. long story short earlier it took a bit longer to start. ?fuel pump going out? i know its time to change my filter but.....what do you all think?

May 31, 2011start with the filter, couldnt hurt. i know my fuel pressure regulator is going out (well, at least i think it is) and i have always figured that is what is causing the slower starts.
fuel pumps are a pain in the arse to replace so i would start with the easy things first.
May 31, 2011i like your thinking!!!!fuel pressure regulator? didnt think of that. thanks.
June 3, 2011pre- update. just changed out the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel filter so i will let you know if it fixes the problem.
June 3, 2011note: so when i took the old one off. i noticed that on the inside of the part it has a long needle looking thing but around it was pressed inward and the new one was not. so the new one does not sat a flush as the old one it didnt leak gas or any thing.should i be worried about that?
June 3, 2011well went out to check it after it sat for a good while.and no luck! ****...it does look like it is sitting like the old one did.but still taking along time to start.....any thought???
June 3, 2011have you tried cycling the key on and off a couple of times before starting
it will help build the fuel pressure higher if the pump is having a problem
if it still is hard to start i would get the fuel pressure gauge out and check the pressure. from the looks of you pic you have a newer engine and it should be around 60#s of pressure. lower than that then its the pump
another thing to look at is the starter
my 95 when i bought it was always kind of lacking it power to turn the engine over easily, it finaly went out and had it rebuilt and has been fine since
June 5, 2011well thinking its the check valve!:[ thanks for the imput EX.
June 29, 2011so i guess im going to change the fuel pump. any brand i should stay away from.i want a one thats a good one. i have been priming the truck before i start it and it works but i got a small trip coming up and i do not want an issue out on the road. think i am going to do it myself. any thing i need to know to make my life better. i have read some on it but .....i trust you peps for good info. thanks iron
June 29, 2011Go with AC delco pump...any others will not last...spray the tank straps with PB blaster and run the fuel as low as you can beofre dropping the tank it will make your life alot easier.
June 29, 2011yeah have to agree with the ac delco pump
i did mine a little different that 4x4chevydude is saying
when i had to replace mine due to rotten fuel lines i lifted the bed off the truck
it is really easy and as long as you have an impact wrech and 4 buddys to lift it off
on the short bed trucks there are 6 bolts that bolt the bed to the frame
3 that bolt the filler neck to the bed and a harness for the tail lights
once all that is disconnected it ready to lift and gives you great access to everything
plus side is if the frame is looking a bit rusty then would be a really good time to give it a coat of por15
oh yeah i should say when i did mine it took about 3 hours total working on it by myself untill i had to lift the bed
