June 1, 2010So I took a trip last weekend and drive about 1300 miles and I calculate my MPG every time I fill up....on the way there I drove 70 cause we were running late and got 13.3 MPG which isnt great for my highway mpg but on the way back my truck was doing 65 and got 15.7 which is the best ive ever got in my truck the previous highest was 15.2....i dunno why it made so big a difference in 5 MPh but it was nice not seeing the needle move sooo fast...my truck is a 2000 k2500 with a 6"lift and 33" tires and a 4.10 rear so it aint bad MPG for that

June 1, 2010heck no, im jealous!
did you recently change to all synthetic fluids or anything? add some mods under the hood? new transmission?
June 1, 2010I once got 15.6 mpg.... that was on 33`s with 3.73 gears in my 98. I have come close to 14.5 on the highway with the 38`s and 4.56 gears. But it feels like i am standing still because everyone is passing me in sight!
June 1, 2010that`s not bad for that size truck with that set up. My best with my `96 hoe 2wd with 3.73 and stock size tires was 20 mpg on a 500 mi trip going up. coming back was my worst milage cause I was towing 5200 lb trailer
June 2, 2010no real changes in anything i put a drop in k&n filter but ive had it before this so i dont think that made a difference the only thing ive changed is last oil change i used mobil one advanced fuel economy and a mobil one filter it prob helped a little
June 2, 2010the oil probably made the difference
June 2, 2010wget 700 highway kilometers to 90 litres. (one tank) not bad i think. on 33`s with 3.73 gears. new trans and motor helps though
June 3, 2010what do you all think about that oil.0-20W,or is it 0-30W or what ever it is. thinking about putting in my wifes car????any one tried it.sounds like it may have worked for him.
June 3, 2010I went from Mobil 1 synthetic 0W-30 to Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-40 because I have 225k miles and like the added oil pressure. I am pretty sure that my mileage remained the same. I have noticed a slight increase in mileage after switching to Royal Purple ATF however.
June 4, 2010I was running valvoline max life 5 30 before that and the only reason i did mobil was cuz its 30.00 at autozone with a filter and 5 qts so it was a deal i couldnt pass....it probably contributed to the slight gain being that it was thinner and a synthetic but if it wasnt on sale i probably wouldnt have bought it the royal purple ATF is probably gonna help too but again at 8.00 a quart how much is it really worth
June 4, 2010wow thats great wish i could get that i usually get 12-12.5 mpg the most is 13 but i have a 7.4l vortec with 3.74 or something like that for gears
